| Improve Gas Mileage |
 |
 |
 |
1. Gas mileage decreases at speeds over 60 mph. Staying within posted speed limits will actually help you by increasing gas mileage.
2. Don’t drive agressively avoid jack rabbit starts and stops. You could be improving your gas mileage by 5% simply by anticipating traffic conditions and driving gently.
3. If you anticipate a wait in traffic you can get gas mileage improvements by turning your engine off. Idling unnecessarily wastes fuel pollutes the air and will do nothing for your gas mileage.
4. Combine errands to improve gas mileage - several cold starts can use twice as much gas as one long trip.
5. Cruise control and overdrive gears used during highway driving will improve gas mileage.
6. Remove any excess weight from your trunk to increase gas mileage. Even as little as an extra 100 pounds can reduce your fuel economy by up to 2%.
7. Avoid using roof racks or carriers if you are looking for gas mileage improvements - they create wind resistance that can decrease fuel economy by 5%.
