Transforming your house can be fun, easy and affordable with the terrific room decorating advice that we have compiled free of charge - just for you! www.ForeverAndAlways.com is thrilled to be able to offer this room decorating and room arranging advice to you - everyday!
Decorative Organization In visible areas, use containers similar in either texture, color or shape. Your home will immediately look more attractive and feel more organized. Trunks, boxes, baskets and plastic containers are all good options to hide clutter. Many items such as wine corks or marbles can become decorative if put in clear glass containers.
Creating Balance
If a room doesn’t look or feel quite right, try adding pairs of matching pillows, lamps or candles. However, pairs don’t have to be identical. You can create them if they’re similar in size. Example: a lamp on a table and a floor lamp works if they are similar in overall height.
Artwork Arrangement It’s a common mistake to hang pictures too high and to have too many things on the walls. Be selective ... hang just your favorites or rotate items with the seasons. (That way you can really appreciate what is on display.) In addition, your eyes need a place to rest, so leave one wall empty.
Personalize Your Home
Your home should reflect who you are and what you value. Display family pictures and keepsakes instead of putting them in shoe boxes. (Group pictures together for greater impact.) Instead of buying pictures from a store, consider framing vacation photos and souvenirs as unique artwork instead ... and they make great conversation pieces too!
Collection Collections are fun and express our individuality. Items with a common theme can be grouped together as a collection even though they weren’t purchased as a “collectible.” Various wooden items, or teacups and hats that are purple can be collections. Display together for maximum impact and remember ... 3 of anything is a collection!
Instead of New . . . Add to What You Have! With imagination, you can give the things you already have new life. Replace or add hardware to cabinets and dressers. Sew buttons or decorative trim on curtains and pillows. Update lamps by replacing old shades for a totally new look. Instead of discarding mismatched furniture, paint it all the same color for a cohesive look.
Borrow Ideas Don’t feel you must have original ideas to decorate your home. Go to model homes and notice displays at furniture stores. Check out books at the library. Visit the many internet sites too. Look at magazines and tear out pictures of the things you like ... you’ll soon have many ideas to recreate in your home.
Decorate With Books When you’re finished reading a book, don’t put it in the yard sale bin! Hard bound books are beautiful and can be used in many ways. Remove the paper jacket and display on shelves, some upright and others horizontally. Stack books on tables for a cozy feeling. Place books under lamps and accessories to give additional height.
Paint is a Bargain! You can make the greatest impact in a room by using paint. If you’re unsure about painting an entire room, try painting only one wall or just stencil a border. Paint mismatched furniture to give it a new and unified look. Instead of installing new flooring, try painting the old floor first ... you may save yourself a lot of money! ©2009 ForeverAndAlways.com
